In comparing different internet browsers, I have compared the strengths and weaknesses of the four most common which are Mozilla Firefox, MSN Explorer, iRider and Opera. After viewing all 4 I have come to the conclusion that Firefox is the most userfriendly and is the easiest to use and easiest to teach. I have outlined them in this to show the difference.
Microsoft internet explorer:
This company offers several common search engines, shows thumbnails of all open tabs, Has security features when browsing secured sites. As for cost it comes free with most computer running programs, and is free to download. This program is based on microsoft windows only. Will not support Linux.
Mozilla Firefox:
Most popular of the search engines, it has ease of use. Helpful hint topics are easily accessed. Drop down tabs lists and colored tabs allow restoration of previous searches if you lose power or conectivity due to sunspots which are a common problem in Alaska. It also offers several common search engines such as google, dogpile, ask jeeves etc. From all research done, there is no cost for this program. They also have 'badware'protection and pop-up blocking This program is available for Windows, Linux and Macs.
iRider:
You can open several links or bookmarked pages at once, bookmark several pages at once, exchange pages with others via email, keep pop-ups out of way without using pop-up blocker, easy to learn because based off other common sites $29.00 for software. I did not care for this browser due to the fact of not much information is available unless you buy it, and was not really user friendly. This site did not specify which computer programs it would support.
Opera:
This site is free, best security track record of any other. This site also claimed to be faster and said that you could pull up all favorite sites at once. It also had simple keyboard and mouse shortcuts. This site considered itself a mobile browser. They also claimed to be user friendly and had enough information available to back up it's claim. Opera does not automatically support Java and when prompted you would have to download it as an extra. Opera sometimes has problems downloading correctly due to a wc3 problem.
I am totally satisfied with the designs of Firefox and would not change anything that I have been able to research on it, The other 3 I would change to mimic Firefox.
